Pinay model draws flak from Singaporean netizens for wearing ‘revealing’ outfit

A Filipina model received criticisms from Singaporean netizens after photos of her wearing a ‘revealing’ outfit in the conservative city-state went viral online.

As seen in the said photos, model Ashley Garcia was waiting in the ATM queue while wearing a thin tank top that shows off her arms and back.

The photos stirred negative reactions from netizens in Singapore and immediately went viral. It was even published in websites and newspapers, including Singapore’s Stomp by The Straits Times and the Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao.

“Go out without wearing a bra, just put a tank top and line up in front of the cash machine at the subway station,” Lianhe Wanbao captioned their post.

“The photos were put on social media, which led to a burst of criticism. The lawyers interviewed pointed out that if a public complaint is made, the girl may be guilty of public nuisance or nudity,” it added.

After the social media outburst, Garcia took to her personal Facebook account to address the issue.

The Filipino model admitted that she was the one in the photos and apologized for offending netizens with her outfit.

“I was not aware that somebody took a photo of me… I apologize if I offended any culture [with] this outfit. But please understand that I do not have any obscene or malicious intention by wearing it. I am sorry if you think that this was ‘indecent exposure,’ but it was not my intention,” she said.

Garcia clarified that she was wearing short and nipple tapes underneath her tank top.

She also left a message for the netizens who have been bashing her because of her outfit.

“To those people who are already hitting me below the belt and criticizing me of something, I respect you. You are already telling [me] things which are too personal [and are] already outside of what you see in the picture,” she said.

“I was already cyber-shamed, bullied, and threatened by several people because of this,” she ended her post.
