Filipina superstar Sarah Geronimo has raised the flag of the Philippines when she performed a couple of songs at Zayed Sports City Stadium after the Papal Mass in Abu Dhabi, February 5.

Thousands of Catholic faithful, including overseas Filipino workers across all emirates of the UAE, came together to witness the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis that culminated with the celebration of the holy mass at 10:30 am.

As she walked on the stage, the Filipina singer introduced herself to the crowd composed of 180,000 people.

“Let me introduce myself. My name is Sarah Geronimo from the Philippines,” she said.

She added: “In different parts of the world today, it is time to rise up and spread love and peace… To quote the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: “Where there is hatred, let us sow love. Where is offense, kahit mahirap po, let us forgive. Let us be a part to heal the world.”

Following her performance, Filipino netizens in the UAE took to Twitter to post her performance of various songs including, “The Prayer,” and “The Climb,” as well as “Noypi,” and her hit song, “Forever’s Not Enough.”

She wore an outfit by Dubai-based Filipino designer and The Filipino Times awardee, Furne One.

The performance of the Filipina singer came unannounced, and no promotion was done when she was invited to take part in the post-Papal Mass.

With over one million Catholics all across the UAE and millions more from overseas, only 180,000 people had the rare opportunity to attend the historic Papal Mass in the UAE.
