Puerto Rican actress and Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer.
She revealed on the said post on Tuesday: “Today I have some sad news. I have been diagnosed with skin cancer, ‘melanoma’, from a big spot/mole I never paid attention to, even though it was new, it had been growing for years and had an uneven surface.”
The 41-year-old former beauty queen said that she and her fiancé, Marvel film producer Louis D’Esposito, are now seeking medical help.
“My fiancé Louis had been begging me to have it checked and finally made an appointment himself. After a biopsy and a second surgery last Tuesday, the results unfortunately are positive. Now, we are waiting to see which treatment I will be receiving but they have already removed a big area from the back of my knee and also they have removed two lymph nodes at the top of my leg where it had already spread. Hoping it has not spread to any more areas or organs,” Torres said.
Torres also gave an important piece of advice to her followers.
“I have put everything in God’s hands and I know he has all control. My sons although a bit scared know about my faith and know they have a warrior of a mommy! But if I can help anyone along the way based on my experience, it would be to tell you. Please, never forget to take care of yourself. If you see something or feel something different in your body have it checked. I had no idea skin cancer could spread anywhere else in your body,” she said.
Torres, who is commonly known as Yari among Filipinos, won the Miss Universe title back in 1994 and went to the Philippines to pass the crown to her successor the following year.
She had a showbiz career in the Philippines starring in several movies alongside Aga Muhlach and Cesar Montano. Torres is also considered as one of the original hosts of ABS-CBN’s weekly variety show, ASAP.
Torres last visited the Philippines in 2017 when she was one of the judges of the Miss Universe pageant that year.
