WATCH: Miss Universe Canada 2016 weighs in on beauty queens undergoing plastic surgery

After the before-and-after photos of Miss Venezuela 2018 Sthefany Gutiérrez surfaced online, Miss Universe Canada 2016 Siera Bearchell revealed some inside information about the world of pageantry through her recent YouTube channel.

Netizens from all over the world created online buzz when several photos of Gutiérrez, who placed second runner up in Miss Universe 2018, spread on social media which led many to say that she went under the knife to achieve her flawless looks.

The photos received mixed reactions from netizens. There were some who said that undergoing surgeries should not be a problem since the beauty queens only want to improve their looks and that it is not really against the competitions’ rules to do such. They also said that doctors should not post photos of their patients in the first place.

However, there were also some who said that having surgeries undermine the purpose of beauty pageants, which is to celebrate a woman’s natural beauty.

After which, Bearchell, who represented Canada in Miss Universe 2016 which was held in the Philippines, said that undergoing plastic surgeries something that is not rare in the pageant world, especially in Miss Universe.

“If women who had plastic surgery, veneers, botox, or fillers, are not allowed to enter Miss Universe, there’d be like five contestants,” she said in the video.

She even admitted that she has underwent some procedures herself such as having her teeth fixed and injecting fillers to her lips. Bearchell also revealed that pageant directors suggested for her to get her nose done, as well as undergoing liposuction, but she turned down both suggestions.

Bearchell said that even though going under the knife is not that rare, beauty queens do not talk about it because pageant fans might come across as critical making them feel like they are less worthy to win the crown.

Nevertheless, Bearchell said that what’s important is the the women feel good when they have something done in their bodies. The Canadian beauty queen somehow put cosmetic surgery in a good light by saying it can make people feel better and more confident about themselves.

However, she disagrees with the idea of women trying to change something in their body for a competition and in order for them to get a better placement in a pageant, such as Miss Universe.
