Miss Universe Jamaica finalist passes away after battling lupus

A Jamaican beauty queen who was among the finalists during the Miss Universe Jamaica 2014 pageant has passed away after battling lupus for years.

On Sunday, Zandrea Bailey succumbed to the said disease at the age of 29 in a New York hospital, where she has been staying for several weeks.

Bailey was diagnosed with lupus in 2012.

Miss Universe Jamaica 2014, who placed 4th runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant that same year, posted a photo of Bailey on Instagram and expressed her condolences.

“Rest well sweet girl,” she said.

The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization also posted their message on Instagram.

“The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization wishes to express our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Zandrea Bailey (2014 Miss Universe Jamaica Finalist). You fought a valiant fight after a long battle with lupus. You will be deeply missed. RIP baby girl!” they wrote.

The Gleaner reported that Bailey’s mother also died because of the same disease during the year she competed during the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant.
