A Filipino pastry chef based in New York decided to show his love and supprt to Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray by turning the beauty queen’s face into a edible treat.
Miko Kaw Hok Uy took to social media to share photos and videos of his creation which features a realistic painting of Gray’s face, a three-dimensional recreation of her signature side-swept hair, as well as an edible replica of the iconic Miss Universe Mikimoto crown.
“And here it is. The cake that made me busy last week. My Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray hand-painted cake is finally done. Hair and crown were sculpted using sugar paste. Cake board was inspired by her lava gown. And since I don’t have the money to adorn it with Swarovski crystals, i just used edible black nonpareils and edible glitters instead. Hope you guys like it,” Uy wrote on Facebook.
Uy said in an interview with ABS-CBN News that the entire process took him three days and that the most challenging part was assembling the crown.
“Creating the cake was basically to pay tribute to someone who has inspired millions of people including myself. Cat is a role model not just to me but also to every Filipino who dreams of a better nation, united as one. And the best way for me to show this is through my talent in art and pastry art,” he said.
Uy would also like to thank Gray for showing the global audience “how beautiful and rich our country is, and for showing everyone how strong and resilient we Filipinos are.”
