Filipino music icon Rico J. Puno had one last wish to actor John Lloyd Cruz before he passed away due to heart failure on October 30.
In a column by Julie Bonifacio on Bandera, Puno shared that Cruz has not been communicating with them ever since he took a hiatus from his showbiz career.
Puno and Cruz once worked together on the weekly comedy sitcom “Home Sweetie Home”. It was also the same show where Cruz worked with actress Ellen Adarna, his current girlfriend.
“Wala na siyang communication kahit kanino sa show namin. May texting group kasi kami. We tried texting him kung kumusta na ba siya? Kung kelan siya babalik sa show? Wala siyang response sa akin or kay Direk Bobot (Mortiz),” Puno exclaimed.
“Kahit sa ibang may kinalaman sa show, wala nang kinakausap si John Lloyd,” Puno said during the press conference of his concert “Music And Laughter: Sana Tatlo Ang Puso Ko” which was supposed to take place on November 23.
Puno said that there is nothing wrong with Cruz taking a break from show business. He said that he agreed with how Cruz is trying to keep a low-profile life now since he also went through the same phase during the peak of his career.
“Naranasan ko na rin noon ang ganyan. Sometimes you need a break din. Saka may sariling pamilya na siya, may anak na sila ni Ellen Adarna. So siguro nga, masaya na siya sa ganoong buhay,” he said.
He then revealed his wish to the well-known actor asking him not to leave the entertainment industry for good, as well as his friends like him.
“Kaming mga naging kaibigan niya, lalo na ako kasi naging very close ako sa kanya, hindi niya sana kami binibitawan. Nandito naman kami para suportahan siya sa gusto niyang mangyari sa buhay niya.
“We’re not here to judge him for his actions kasi mga kaibigan niya kami. Kung ano ang nangyayari kay John Lloyd ngayon, we only wish him happiness,” he said.
As of press time, Cruz has not publicly released a statement regarding Puno’s passing.
A PEP.ph report stated that the music had tried to convince Cruz to appear on his concert. But due to Puno’s passing, the planned comedy concert will turn into a tribute show for Puno.
Cruz has not yet confirmed if he will be appearing on the show or not.
