Filipino beauty queen shares story of her humble beginnings

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 Sharifa Areef Mohammed Omar Akeel was the one who carried the Philippine flag and brought pride to the country after bagging the title Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 during the pageant’s coronation night held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila on October 4.

Other winners of the pageant included Gabriela Palma of Brazil, Melania Gonzales of Costa Rica, Misheelt Narmandakh of Mongolia, and Mariani Nataly Chacon Angarita of Venezuela who were declared as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th runners-up, respectively.

According to a report on Tempo, the 21-year-old Philippine bet works as a Muslim teacher in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

Sharifa recently had a motorcade in her hometown and many were shocked when she revealed that she used to live in a humble hut before she became an international beauty pageant winner.

The same report added that there were even no sumptuous food or program to welcome Sharifa in her hometown. She only met her loved ones who congratulated her.

Sharifa said that she is not ashamed of her humble beginnings and even opted to have her photo taken at the doorstep of their house while wearing her sash and crown.

“A humble and persevering lady with big dreams and an even bigger heart. Our queen takes a few days off from her busy schedule to go home to Sultan Kudarat and spend time with her family and friends,” Miss Asia Pacific International wrote on Instagram.
