Pia Wurtzbach recalls experiences as waitress, factory worker abroad

Pia Wurtzbach might be one of the most in-demand celebrities today, but she has also had her fair share of trials in life before she took over the universe in 2015 as Miss Universe.

Through an inspiring Instagram post, Wurtzbach took a trip down memory lane to look back at her life before she won the crown.

The beauty queen said in her post that she has taken the role to be her family’s breadwinner at the age of 11 through modeling and acting stints.

Wurtzbach previously said that she was born in Germany but was raised in Cagayan De Oro, wherein she helped her mother and sister after her parents separated when she was still young.

According to the “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode of her life story, her family moved to Manila for her showbiz career, but when it did not turn out to be successful, she moved to England and lived there briefly with her family. That was when she decided to enter jobs such as waiting tables and packing boxes.

Wurtzbach proudly shared on Instagram, “I’ve been my family’s breadwinner since I was 11. I’ve worked countless jobs from waiting tables to packing boxes in a paper factory — a testament that I hustled on and never gave up ‘til I reached my dreams.”

She said that winning the highly coveted beauty pageant title has truly changed her life. But that will not stop her from achieving more accomplishments in her lifetime.

“Being Miss Universe 2015 is a big and beautiful achievement, but being my ultimate is a continuous journey of self-discovery, self-love, and self-care so I can be a vessel to inspire others.

“I am able to help promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle, AIDS awareness, women empowerment — and these are far more important to me than any crown I could ever receive,” she shared.
