The Miss USA 2018 preliminary competition took place last May 17, but unknown to many, a half-Filipina was among the lovely candidates who graced the pageant’s stage.
Alexa Noone had the honor of representing her home state, New Jersey, in the annual contest.
Noone stunned the crowd in a purple swimsuit and a glittery gold gown during the preliminary competition.
According to the Miss New Jersey USA website, Noone is of Nicaraguan, a Filipino-American of German and Irish descent.
She was an achiever in school and has received honors and several scholarships. Noone also trained in gymnastics and martial arts, with a first degree black belt in Judo.
The 23-year-old currently works as a flight attendant for United Airlines.
This year’s Miss USA pageant, to be held on May 21 at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana, will be hosted by Miss Teen USA 1998 Vanessa Minnillo-Lachey, who is also half-Filipino. Minnillo-Lachey will be accompanied by her husband, former 98º member, Nick Lachey.
If Noone will be crowned as this year’s Miss USA, she will be representing her country in the upcoming Miss Universe 2018 competition.
In case she will win, she will not be the first half-Filipina to represent a foreign country in the said annual pageant. It can be recalled that half-Filipina Angeline Pua will be representing Belgium in the Miss Universe 2018 pageant.
Some other notable half-Filipino candidates who have joined the Miss USA pageant are Miss North Dakota USA 2014 Audra Mari, who finished as first runner-up in Miss USA 2014; Miss New York USA 2014 Candace Kendall; Miss Kansas USA 2014 Audrey Banach; and Miss North Dakota USA 2017 Raquel Wellentin.
