Spiral pole dancer hailed as PGT’s new winner

Kristel de Catalina, a spiral pole dancer Antipolo, Rizal, was hailed as the winner of the recently concluded sixth season of Pilipinas Got Talent.

De Catalina was declared the winner during the show’s grand finals night which was held last weekend at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The spiral pole dancer gained an average score of 99.67% from the judges and viewers.

For her final performance, De Catalina performed a routine to Celine Dion’s “All By Myself”. She combined dance and acrobatics as she was suspended in the air.

De Catalina will be taking home a cash prize worth P2 million (approx. Dh 142,000).

She bested ballroom dancers Julius and Rhea, and comedian Joven Olvido, who also happened to be this season’s crowd favorite.

De Catalina has been a frontrunner in the competition after receiving the Golden Buzzer during her audition.

Sexism controversy

During the finals night of Pilipinas Got Talent, judge Robin Padilla was criticized online for his sexist comment to De Catalina.

This isn’t the first time that Padilla was called out for sexism towards De Catalina, who is a single mother.

Throughout the competition, De Catalina performed solo, but for her final performance, she was assisted by a male dancer.

“Gusto kong malaman mo na gustong-gusto ko na mayroon sa ‘yong nag-assist na lalaki ngayon. Isang malaking bagay na makita ko na ang assistant mo, may lalaki dyan sa baba. Hindi man katabi mo, pero assistant mo,” Padilla said.

Many netizens said that Padilla’s comment was unnecessary and he should have just focused on De Catalina’s performance.

Nevertheless, De Catalina became the second dancer to win the said talent competition.
