Joey de Leon’s joke on TV contestant receives flak

by | Entertainment

A joke of veteran TV host-comedian Joey de Leon’s to a contestant’s former job of being a prostitute receives major flak from netizens.

During an interview in one of Eat Bulaga’s segments, TV contestant Mary Jane revealed that she was a former prostitute in Pasay City. Mary Jane continued her story by telling the hosts that because of her job, she got impregnated by two different men. It was during her second pregnancy that Mary Jane met a woman who introduced her to a ministry shelter in Olongapo City.

The interview continued with Mary Jane proudly telling the hosts that she currently is a practicing born-again Christian who resides in the ministry shelter.

After telling her story, de Leon asked a “joke” to Mary Jane, ““May naging guest ka bang taga-Eat Bulaga? Hindi, baka napasyal lang.”

Netizens picked up on the nature of de Leon’s “joke” and lambasted the host on social media. They argued that instead of being sympathetic toward Mary Jane and her story, de Leon decided to poke fun and focus at Mary Jane’s former job.

Netizens pointed out that this was not the first time de Leon made fun of a sensitive issue.

Another user even called de Leon “basura ng telebisyon.

A netizen also called out Eat Bulaga for not pulling out de Leon despite his comments while another is demanding the show a public apology.
