The Chinese producers of the singing competition show in China, “The Singer 2018”, have a big request for Filipino singer KZ Tandingan who recently became a regular contender of the show.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Tandingan said that she had Mandarin trainers in China and the Philippines to help her practice the song she sang in the most recent episode of the show.

“Meron akong mga Mandarin coaches doon (China), meron din dito (Philippines). So pina-translate ko siya to English and Bisaya para talagang alam na alam ko yung meaning,” she said.

During her second performance which was aired last February 16, Tandingan sang a medley of three Chinese songs namely “All The Things You Never Knew” by Wang Leehom, “What Else Do You Want From Me” by Joker Xue, and “Still Aching” by Power Station.

Tandingan also said that even though she ranked sixth after her performance, she is still overwhelmed by the feedback she received from televiewers and netizens in China.

“Kahit na ganon ‘yung naging ranking, sobrang natuwa ako kasi sa social media nila don sa China, ‘yung Weibo, lahat ng nakuha kong comments regarding my Mandarin ay sobrang natuwa sila. Sabi pa nila, napaka-standard daw nung Mandarin ko,” she said.

After four days since the episode was aired, the video of Tandingan’s performance is still the number one trending video in YouTube Philippines as of this writing.

The average score of her performance was high enough to earn her a spot in the top four of the competition, making her a regular contender.

After her performance, Tandingan also revealed that the Chinese producers of the show asked a big request from her.

“Dahil nga natuwa sila, kanta daw ulit ako ng Mandarin. Nawili sila,” she jokingly said.

Tandingan previously said that she decided to sing in Mandarin for the sixth episode of the show to pay respect to the Chinese culture.
