Kris Aquino dropped a major bomb about her past relationship with Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
After gracing the cover of People Asia as one of the magazine’s People of 2017, it seems like Kris Aquino is in a good place, but she revealed in the magazine that Mayor Bautista cancelled their wedding after a month of proposing.
“One of the lowest moments of my life. I still remember the date, April 8, 2014, inatrasan ako sa kasal ni Herbert.
“Over the phone. I was in Bellevue Hotel in Alabang because we were celebrating the (advance) seventh birthday of Bimbi.
“It did not hit me at first because we were having a party,” Aquino confessed.
Aquino did not mention the details on why the actor-turned-politician cancelled his proposal.
However, on January 2017, when the two were in Rome, Bautista asked for her hand in marriage once again, and even gave her a one carat D-color, heart-shaped diamond ring.
She vividly remembered the words of Bautista: “‘Ang tagal kong utang ito sa ‘yo. So, puwede bang makabawi ngayon?’”
According to her, she accepted the ring but returned it the following day.
“I returned it the next day because I said that we will always have responsibilities that came before he and I meet,” she said.
She also explained to Bautista why she chose to refuse this time: “[A]s long as our children are not done yet with their studies, I don’t think we have the freedom to be able to choose happiness.”
“I returned the ring not because gusto kong iparamdam sa kanya kung anong pinaramdam niya sa akin three years before that. It was because nagising na ko.
“I just realized that a person like him and a person like me can’t be together because (my mom said this already) in a home there can only be one star.
“And I think, a union like that would require me to no longer be me. And I still want to be me,” she added.
The Queen of all media also shared: “I admire him so much because he was willing to be the knight in shining armor and he came back when I was already nobody. He came back when I had no network, I had no power, we had no base. Dun ako humanga sa kanya.”
Aquino said that they are the perfect example of a “what-could-have-been” couple and she would prefer to just leave it there.
She just emphasized her appreciation to Bautista when he came to her life when she was a nobody.
