A Filipino-American fashion designer won a prestigious Emmy for his work on the popular American reality competition “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.
Filipino-American Zaldy Goco took home the Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming at the 69th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 10 for his costume designs in “RuPaul’s Drag Race” episode featuring American pop star Lady Gaga.
He shares his Emmy with fellow costume designer Perry Meek.
“I had a speech and I didn’t even get to thank my team. I’m like so upset that I didn’t get to thank them because it was them that made this possible,” ABS-CBN News quoted him.
He acknowledged his Filipino relatives, whom he said always likes to party and dress up, as an influence on his creations.
This is Goco’s second Emmy nomination in the same category. The first one was back in 2016 for his costume designs at the same reality show.
Goco has previously designed costumes for big stars like Gwen Stefani, Madonna and the late “King of Pop” Michael Jackson.
The Creative Arts Emmy honor outstanding technical achievement in television programs in various genres like animation, reality, drama and comedy shows, and documentary.
