Filipino performers rule ‘Olympics’ of performing arts

Filipino performers once against stood tall as they bagged top awards in this year’s World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).

Filipino delegates bagged a total of 205 medals—58 gold, 99 silver and 48 bronze—including top awards.

Nhikzy Calma and Cristiani Rebada emerged as the 2017 WCOPA Over-all Junior and Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World.

Calma, who rose to fame after winning the Mini Me segment of ABS-CBN’s Showtime, also bagged a gold medal for being the junior grand winner of the event’s dance division.

“Inaalay ko po itong tagumpay ko sa inyong lahat, mga mahal kong Pilipino. Salamat po sa inyong lahat sa tiwala at suporta na binigay niyo sa akin at sa lahat po ng tumulong at sumuporta po sa akin para maabot ko itong napakagandang pangarap,” Calma said in an Instagram post.

Hannah Korin Castillo also reigned as the Junior Champion Vocalist of the World.

WCOPA, which took place from June 30 to July 9, is considered as the Olympics of the performing arts.
