Height not a key factor in winning – Miss U candidates

Height is not a key factor in winning the Miss Universe crown, Miss Universe USA Deshauna Barber and Miss Universe Thailand Chalita Suansane told a 26-year old Filipina, Karen Kate Badion.

“I’m too fat and I’m too short,” Badion, who attended to the girls when they ate afternoon snacks at Dohtonbori restaurant at the Mall of Asia, reportedly said when the two beauty queens asked her if she ever thought of joining Miss Universe.

“Don’t focus on that. I assure you, don’t focus on the appearance. I’m not tall,” ABS-CBN News quoted Barber, who stands 5-foot-10, as advising Badion.

“Me too!” 5-foot-7 Suansane reportedly chimed in.

The delegate from the US further encouraged Badion that her height should not stop her from being a beauty queen if that’s what she really wants, the report said.

The two Miss Universe candidates told Badion that she “should not be intimidated by all the beautiful women” who are joining pageants, it added.

“We’re all beautiful… It’s just probably what’s on the inside,” Barber was quoted as saying. “You’ll never know… I think you should try.”
