Spice Girls’ iconic hit gets an empowering remix

Victoria Beckham is standing with The Global Goals against violence against women, child marriage, and more in a video that takes the ‘90s hit “Wannabe” and infuses it with even more empowerment.

The video was launched to shed light on issues affecting young women around the world such as gender equality, child marriage, and violence against women.

‘Wannabe’ video, which has since garnered more than 29 million views less than a day after it was uploaded online, shows celebrities from the UK, Canada, Sri Lanka, India, and Nigeria sharing their wishes for women, and encouraging people to do the same with the hashtag #WhatIReallyReallyWant.

The messages will then be passed on to world leaders at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in September.

Former Spice Girls’ Victoria Beckham, who shared the video on her Facebook page, said she hopes that girls dying from HIV will be a thing of a past, while Melanie C, known also as Sporty Spice, added she is “flattered and honored that our crazy song is being used beautifully.”

Other celebrities like Emma Watson and John Oliver have also expressed their support for the campaign.

The video is part of the Project Everyone campaign, which aims to promote awareness for the United Nations Global Goals — a list of world goals the international organization hopes to achieve by 2030. Gender equality is number five on the list.
