Is the PBA ripe for expansion?

Is the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) ready to add more teams in its roster?

PBA commissioner Chito Salud thinks so, admitting that the surge of good players from the collegiate ranks would be able to fulfil that need.

He sees additional teams joining the league in the next two years.

Salud also noted that a good number of players are not being utilized to their full potential given the limited rotation.

With an increase in the number of teams playing in the league, he reasoned that everyone will be able to shine as they should.

He pointed out that an average PBA team has about 18 to 20 players, which meant limited playing time for some of its members.

Incoming PBA chairman Ramon Segismundo agreed saying that league expansion will be among his top priorities.

Segismundo explained that an addition of one or two teams will make the league much more exciting.

The PBA currently has 10 ball clubs: Petron Blaze, San Mig Coffee, Rain or Shine, Meralco Bolts, Global Port, Alaska, Barako Bull, Barangay Ginebra, Talk ‘N Text and Air21.
