Eugene Domingo was hailed Best Actress at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival for her starring role in filmmaker Jun Lana’s “Barber’s Tales.”
Domingo extended her gratitude to Lana via Facebook, going on to intimate her hope that the film will also be shown in local theaters.
Lana was equally ecstatic with Domingo’s win congratulating the actress via Twitter.
In “Barber’s Tales” Domingo played the role of a submissive wife who takes over her chauvinistic husband’s barber shop after he dies.
The victory is Domingo’s second international accolade after she received the People’s Choice Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” at the 6th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong in March last year.
The festival’s top honor, the Sakura Grand Prix, went to the Swedish film “We Are The Best!”, while the special jury prize went to Iran’s “Bending the Rules.”
Adjudged Best Director is Iceland’s Benedikt Erlingsson for “Of Horses and Men.”
