A week after the deadly Iloilo-Guimaras sea tragedy, another sea mishap took place in Visayas; this time in Samar province.
The Samar Coast Guard confirmed that a passenger boat bound for Tagapul-an Samar partially sank on Monday.
The Coast Guard said that the weather was fine when the boat left the Calbayog port but it suddenly changed shortly after leaving the area.
59 people including the boat’s personnel were rescued by the Coast Guard.
Some members of the Philippine Coast Guard, Calbayog City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council, PNP Maritime Group and Lite Ferries Crew were also onboard.
Nobody was hurt in the mishap. Authorities are expected to release a full report Monday evening.
Last week a sea tragedy in Iloilo-Guimaras strait killed 31 people, prompting Transportation authorities to suspend Coast Guard officials assigned in the area while investihation is still pending.
