Filipino baby alive and well after being born amid war in Tripoli

Amidst the ongoing firefight in Tripoli where thousands of people have died and fled, a Filipino baby boy was born.

Baby Chadrich Arshan Valentin is now the youngest member of the Filipino Community in Tripoli.

More than two months since he was born, picture of him was posted and uploaded on Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato’s Twitter account on Sunday, July 28.

Cato was visiting the Philippine Embassy in Libya when he met the baby boy.

Cato said Chadrich was born in mid-April while heavy fighting was raging near a hospital in southern Tripoli where his mother works as a nurse.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr. retweeted Cato’s post and commented, “He does look a little worried.”

Cato replied, “They call him Boom Boom, sir.”

Since April, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 1,100 people killed and injured 5,750 others. There were also 100,000 civilians who have fled their homes.

The birth of baby Chadrich in the middle of the atrocities in Libya bears a glimmer of hope that this nation can rear children without animosity—breaking the shackles of conflict and hatred.
