Philippines to be projected 360 degrees on Al Wasl Plaza at Expo 2020 Dubai

In coordination with the Expo 2020 Dubai organizers, Philippine representations will be shown March 16, 2021 on the dome of Al Wasl Plaza, which is located at the heart of the Expo 2020 Dubai site, as part of the Philippine National Day.

The dome of the plaza is a 360-degree projection screen.

DTI Assistant Secretary Rosvi Gaetos told the media during a roundtable discussion at its Makati headquarters on June 11 that each of the participating country will be given a chance to hold a “National Day” during the run of the Expo.

The significant date on March 16, 2021 she said, marks the 500-year anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippine archipelago.

As a tribute to the crucial contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the country, she said they would like to celebrate a Philippine National Week instead of just one National Day, set from March 14-20, 2021, with a week-long celebration for all OFWs in the Middle East, especially those in the UAE.

“During the Philippine National Day, we will also create a soundscape that will be heard all over the Expo site,” Gaetos said.

Al Wasl Plaza will connect the Expo’s three districts, sub-themed as “Opportunity”, “Sustainability”, and “Mobility”.

The Plaza is scheduled to be finished by October 2019, a year before the Expo’s official starting date on 20 October 2020.
