Philippines to be projected 360 degrees on Al Wasl Plaza, Dubai

Philippine representations will be shown March 16, 2021 on the dome of Al Wasl Plaza, which is located at the heart of the Expo 2020 Dubai site, as part of the Philippine National Week.

The dome of the plaza is a 360-degree projection screen.

DTI Assistant Secretary Rosvi Gaetos told the media during a roundtable discussion at its Makati headquarters on June 11 that each of the participating country will be given a chance to hold a “national week” during the run of the Expo.

The significant date, she said, marks the 500-year anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage to the archipelago.

She explained that the conquistador did not discover the Philippines, but the other way around.

As a tribute to the crucial contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the country, she said they would like to turn the Philippine National Week, set from March 14-20, 2021, into a long-week celebration for all OFWs in the Middle East, especially those in the UAE.

“For the celebration, we will also create a soundscape that will actually be heard all over the Expo site,” Gaetos said.

Al Wasl Plaza will connect the Expo’s three districts, sub-themed as “Opportunity”, “Sustainability”, and “Mobility”.

The Plaza is scheduled to be finished by October 2019, a year before the Expo’s official starting date on 20 October 2020.
