All systems go for PH National ID launch in September

It’s all systems go for the implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced, saying that the initial batch of six million individuals has been set in September this year.

Arroyo also said that the Philippine Statistics Authority expects to issue about 100 million PhilSys ID to registered Filipino citizens and resident aliens by 2022.

Lourdines dela Cruz, PSA deputy national statistician, earlier said that plan to cover with single identification system all Filipinos and foreign workers residing in the Philippines, as long as they are at least five years old.

The PSA is targeting to make the PhilSys ID available first to persons with disabilities, indigents, and government workers in several key areas nationwide.

PhilSys ID would include biometrics (thumbprint, iris and face scanning), full name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, blood type, address, and if one is a Filipino or a resident alien.

Meanwhile, information about a person’s mobile number, marital status, and online information would be made optional.

The PhilSys ID, which includes a person’s permanent identification number, is free of charge.
