A combined workforce of more than 5.26 million from private companies in the UAE will now enjoy a total holidays of 14 days this year which used to be 11 last year.
The announcement came with the approval of equal holidays for the public and private sectors for 2019-2020 by the UAE Cabinet.
As reported by WAM, the new decree aims to achieve a balance between the two sectors and support the national economy.
Included in the list of holidays announced are the following: Islamic New Year, Eid Arafat, Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha, Hijiri New year, Commemoration Day, and National Day.
In January, Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade told WAM that more than 338,000 private sector companies in the UAE with 5.26 million people in the workforce.
Al Saleh said: “The private sector’s contribution to the UAE GDP grew 5 percent to 70.5 percent in 2018 in translation of the government’s growing interest in the sector, being a key driver of economic growth.”
