Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) across the globe are covered by the Republic Act 11223 otherwise known as “Universal Health Care (UHC) law, which was recently signed by Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte.

In an interview of Sen. Jose Victor “JV” Ejercito, who authored the bill, on the “Executive Session” radio program of DZRH, he said OFWs, as long as they are Filipino citizens, are automatically covered under the new law.

“OFWs are definitely covered. If you’re a Filipino, you’re included. After their tour of duty, they will be covered,” Ejercito stated.

“If you can present proof that you are a Filipino, you would be covered by the National Health Insurance Program. That means, you can now afford medical services such as check-ups, laboratory tests, and hospitalization because the government will subsidize the fees,” he added.

The Universal Health Care (UHC) Bill would enable all Filipino citizens to get access to more affordable health care.

The law aims for a total inclusion of all Filipinos in the National Health Insurance Program that will be created as part of the measure.

From multitudes of segments, the new law now simplifies the groups to contributory or those who pay contributions via their payroll, and non-contributory (those who are enrolled in the program, fully subsidized from tax collections).
