Filipina attempted rape victim wins lawsuit

A Filipina jobseeker who was nearly raped in Dubai won her case against her Emirati attacker who beat her after failing to rape her.

According to the Filipina, the 46-year-old man offered her a job as an accountant in his tourism company back in January this year. The man drove her to his villa in Al Rashidiya, claiming they would have to wait for other employees. However, the suspect began to sexually touch the Filipina when they entered the villa before the latter managed to escape, reported Gulf News.

The Filipina said she was scared at first to report the case to the authorities in fear of being charged with immorality, however, through the help of a fellow Filipina, she was referred to volunteer social worker Ray Angulo who connected her with the Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Section of the Philippine Consulate General.

The Consulate gave the Filipina a lawyer and won the case.

“This victory is not mine alone but yours too. I clearly remember what one of the CID officials told me that pushed me to fight for justice. He said no one is above the law in the UAE. They will assist victims irrespective of the nationality of the offender,” the Filipina said.

Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes also assured that the Consulate is ready to provide any help needed by Filipinos facing similar cases.
