TESDA mounts OFW desks in int’l airports

In a bid to better inform overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) of the free technical vocational (tech-voc) courses they can get free, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has set up desks at the country’s international airports, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1 and 3, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Clark International Airport, and Davao International Airport.

The OFW desks are open from Mondays through Fridays. The desks were mounted to guide OFWs about the courses available at TESDA, and how they can avail of these. OFWs can also get a “Certificate of Commitment” at the desks.

“For those who plan to stay here in the Philippines for good, they can get this certificate to avail of TESDA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP),” TESDA specialist Nelson Efren said.

He explained that all OFWs may avail of the TWSP, and is not limited to repatriated OFWs.

“Under the TWSP, scholars are also provided with toolkits. This is suitable for those who would like to take baking, dressmaking courses, for example, because they will be given toolkits, which they could use right away for business,” Efren explained.

The agency is expecting that more OFWs who will inquire and avail of the services at the desks in the coming days.
