Med tech grad shines as go-to director for high fashion and celeb events in Dubai

Many famous people find it difficult to stay humble with their feet firmly on the ground. Not this guy, who belongs to the elite league of talented and creative Filipinos who have carved their niche in the international arena of fashion and showbiz.

He is Errol Isip, known as the “go-to director” for Dubai’s fashion and celebrity gigs and, as well, the first Pinoy in the Middle East to handle prestigious events for high-profile brands.

This young lad, who finished medical technology at University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, is already a name to reckon with in Philippine fashion and show business before he came to Dubai.

He started out as a commercial model before venturing into the world of events management and directing, mentored by the country’s premier fashion show director, Robby Carmona.
“”He asked if I could work part time for him. Robbie was my first mentor and I’m grateful for what he has taught me,” Isip said.

After graduation, Isip saw an opportunity to make his own mark in the industry and established his own talent management agency, The Velvet Rope. The young neophyte then developed his eye for potential models by surveying what the fashion, advertising and editorial worlds were looking for.

He managed talents such as Angel Locsin, Aliya Parcs and Mark San Diego, booking them for fashion shows, event appearances and photo shoots for magazines and advertising campaigns.

Being one who does not rest on his laurels, Isip would soon try his hand in the global arena and fly to the UAE to explore for more opportunities.

He packed his bags and boarded a plane to the UAE in the late 2000s. He steadily worked his way up Dubai’s events management industry while building a strong reputation as the go-to fashion show and events director for the city’s top department stores.

Since the early 2010s, Isip has been handling luxury portfolios and directing highly successful shows for Harvey Nichols, Bloomingdale’s, Gucci, Armani, Bulgari, and Alexander McQueen, among others.

Other brands that he has handled include Armani, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, Emilio Pucci, Marrni, DVF, Sandro, Maje, McQ, Thomas Pink, Charlotte Olympia, Moschino, Segio Rossi, and Roger Vivier.

The young director has also managed the appearances of celebrities in Dubai such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella McCartney, and Tinie Tempah for Coach.

“To this day I am still so proud of our hard work for the Dolce & Gabbana show in 2016 because it was praised as the Gulf’s biggest fashion event.”

Despite his numerous and immense achievements, the talented Filipino remains humble and hardworking.

“It’s always important to communicate with your client and understand their needs. Then it is equally important to communicate well with your teammates so that everyone can deliver the best for the client,” Errol said. (Gelin Castro)
