Usec Manalo on Yasay’s CA rejection: ‘Ganun ang buhay’

by

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique Manalo said it was unfortunate acting Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr. – who had been President Duterte’s college dorm buddy – was rejected by the Senate Commission on Appointments.

“He was secretary of Foreign Affairs. Unfortunately, he was not confirmed. We have to live with that. He laid the ground work for some of our work today. But we have to go on,” Manalo told The Filipino Times.

“The DFA continues to perform his work even after he’s gone. We like to maintain the services and functions of the department. It was just unfortunate it happened, pero ganun ang buhay,” added Manalo, who assumed post as acting DFA secretary following Yasay’s rejection in March.
In his acting capacity, Yasay met with counterpart officials in the UAE government to explore areas of bilateral agreements in time for Duterte’s visit, which, by itself, has been postponed at least four times.

“We will continue work on that. Kung saka-sakaling magkaruon ng visit dito ang pangulo, we will have a number of bilateral agreement with the UAE, hopefully in the political and economic areas as well as sa labor,” Manalo said.

Duterte appointed Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano on May 10. The CA confirmed him a week after.
