Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smart Dubai Office to enable the use of Nol card system as a means of effecting mini payments.
The MoU intends to realize a host of targets such as endorsing Nol card as a means of smart payment in Dubai city, charting out a roadmap for the extended use of the card as a means of payment for services across Dubai, specifying the initial cost of adding any new service to the Nol system platform, and studying the economic feasibility of projects added to the platform, reported Gulf News.
Objectives also include identifying the operational model for managing services to be added to the Nol platform, besides ensuring that the respective responsibilities of all service beneficiaries are clearly defined, and the conditions governing uses are specified as part of the service expansion map.
Nol is a smart payment system for all public transport modes in Dubai, including metro, buses, water buses and taxis, said the news portal.
However, the e-wallet in the Nol cards has long been seen to have a potential for expansion.
A few years back, the RTA launched a Nol credit card in collaboration with Emirates NBD and there have also been talks of enabling Nol cards for grocery shopping, the report said.
The MoU was signed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office.
