The 22 Filipino fishermen and owners of Philippine fishing boat Gem-Ver which was rammed by a Chinese fishing vessel near Recto Bank in 2019 will finally be compensated.
The Chinese vessel rammed and abandoned the boat in the West Philippine Sea in June 2019.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said there has been a final settlement of the damage claims of the Gem-Ver fishermen against “the owners of the Chinese vessel.”

The agreed compensation was Php6 million.
Gem-Ver was rammed by the Chinese vessel Yuemaobinyu 42212 around midnight of June 9, 2019, near Recto Bank and the Filipino boat crew members were abandoned at sea.
Later they were rescued by a passing Vietnamese fishing boat.
