DFA orders PH ambassador in Saudi to return home, probes wife for endorsing BBM

The Department of Foreign Affairs has ordered Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto to return home after his wife was seen explicitly endorsing the candidacy of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.

“The DFA is investigating the incident in Riyadh, and Ambassador Alonto has been instructed to return to the Philippines for home office consultations,” the DFA said in a statement on Saturday.

The DFA also reminded its personnel in the Philippines and in Foreign Service Posts that they are prohibited from campaigning or engaging in any partisan political activity.

Alonto’s wife was seen wearing a shirt with Marcos’ name on it while speaking to a crowd of overseas Filipinos.

“Do not waste this moment because this might just be, itong pagkakataon na ito, it might just be the turning point so that we will have another Ilokano president. Ilokano ako kaya. I really believe in my presidential candidate,” Alonto’s wife said.

The late dictator’s son is a native of Ilocos Norte.
