COVID-19 cases in NCR slows down, regional cases rising in PH

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continues to vary – with a “clear” downward trend in Manila and rising numbers elsewhere in other regions.

Dr. Guido David of the OCTA Research Group tweeted that the NCR’s seven-day average of new cases dropped by 23% in one week, from 2,152 to 1,658.

According to data from the Department of Health (DOH), there were 974 new cases in Manila on Tuesday.

Its reproduction number, or the number of individuals a COVID-19 case could infect, has decreased to 1.50.

“The downward trend in Manila is now clear. Apart from Manila, San Juan and Malabon also had negative one week growth rates. While growth rates have slowed in NCR (National Capital Region) Plus, they are still accelerating in many HUCs outside NCR Plus,” Dr. David said.

DOH on Tuesday confirmed the upward trend on COVID-19 cases in other regions compared to NCR.

During an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Metro Manila’s neighboring provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal have shown an upward trend in cases.

“Mula po sa 153 cases a day noong unang linggo ng Disyembre tumaas na po ito sa 1,400 cases a day sa bandang dulo ng nasabing buwan (From 153 cases on the first week of December, it went up to 1,400 cases toward the end of the month),” she said.
