Only 3.4M senior citizens in PH opted to get COVID-19 jabs – WHO Philippines

The COVID-19 vaccination remains slow in the Philippines with only 3.4 million senior citizens receiving the jabs, out of nearly 10 million individuals aged 60 and above.

As per the World Health Organization–Philippines info-graphics the senior citizens have not received their COVID-19 shots which depicts the low vaccination rates in the country. Senior citizens are at most risk of hospitalization and death.

WHO-Philippines said in a post that most regions in the country still struggle to have their senior citizens fully inoculated.

The breakup of the five regions with the highest percentage of fully vaccinated elderly people include National Capital Region (NCR) with 85.1%, Region 4A or Calabarzon (60.6%), CAR (60%), Region 2 or Cagayan Valley (59.7%) and Region 10 or Northern Mindanao with 54.1%.

The COVID-19 vaccination program started on March 1 after the first batch of Sinovac’s CoronaVac arrived in the country.

According to the National Task Force (NTFs) against COVID-19 tracker, there are 4,588,635 individuals from the A2 group or the senior citizens who have received their jabs. The tracker showed that a total of 54,444,161 doses had already been administered, but this remains far from the herd immunity goal.

A total of 53,838,248 doses have already been distributed. (AW)
