WHO solidarity trials for COVID-19 jabs in PH may begin in June – DOST exec

The solidarity trials of the World Health Organization for COVID-19 vaccines in the Philippines are expected to begin next month, according to an official from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

“Ineexpect natin na magsimula yung sa WHO solidarity vaccine trials baka by June,” DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevarra said during Laging Handa public briefing.

Guevarra said WHO opted to help smaller vaccine developers instead of big pharmaceutical companies.

“Nag-decide ang WHO na mas interesado sila tulungan ang mga maliliit pa na companies na nagdedevelop ng vaccines,” she said.

The WHO is yet to disclose which vaccine brand will be used for its solidarity trials in the country.

Guevarra said the WHO is coordinating with local government units to participate in the trial.

Metro Manila is included in the solidarity trial of the UN health body.
