A high court in Abu Dhabi acquitted a local man of charges of swindling nearly Dh40 million from his dead uncle.
A court of first instance had earlier acquitted the man but a court of appeals found him guilty of swindling the sum after his uncle authorized him to manage his business before he died.
The defendant’s cousins took him to court after claiming he used the authority given by their father to transfer large sums of money to his bank account after his uncle’s death over a period of many years.
Experts appointed by court found that the defendant, upon permission by his uncle before death, invested around Dh3 million from his funds in 1998.
They also found that that the investments have swelled to Dh60 million over a period of 16 years and that part of the investments belong to the defendant.
Newspapers said the Court of Cassation decided this week to clear the defendant of swindling charges and acquitted him.
