The death toll in the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit Albania has today climbed to 40.
Ten more bodies were recovered from the rubbles of collapsed structures in the country, according to its defense ministry.
A magnitude 6.4 quake hit Balkan state last Tuesday killing more than dozens and hundreds injured.
“Ten more victims were found during the night, bringing the number of dead to 40,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that no Filipino was hurt in the powerful quake.
“The DFA, through its Philippine Honorary Consulate in Tirana, report(ed) that no Filipino died or was injured as a result of the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Albania early morning of Tuesday, 26 November 2019,” DFA said in a statement.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was centered at 30 km west of Tirana. It was also felt across the Balkans and in the southern Italian region of Puglia, across the Adriatic Sea from Albania.
“The Philippine Embassy in Rome, which has jurisdiction over Albania, is in constant communication with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Tirana and the Filipino community leaders in Albania to gather the latest developments on the incident,” the DFA added.
