200 road fatalities recorded in Abu Dhabi in 2017

More than 200 fatalities and 150 severely injured were recorded in Abu Dhabi due to road accidents last 2017.

According to the Abu Dhabi Police, this result had a slight decrease compared to 2016 which had a total of 289 casualties, and 156 severely injured.

Authorities blame the irresponsible actions of motorists including reckless jumping on red signals, sudden maneuvering. tailgating and violating the lane disciplines.

Aside from the reported fatalities, more than four million fines were also issued to reckless drivers last year.

Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director of Central Operations Sector of Abu Dhabi Police, stated that even though fatalities in 2017 is much lower than in 2016, the authorities will not be complacent and will work further to reduce road fatalities.

He also emphasized the importance of media in promoting traffic safety as well as informing the public on how to abide by the traffic rules and regulations.
