10M Filipino families say they are poor

In a recent survey conducted by the  Social Weather Stations (SWS), it showed that about 10 million Filipinos consider themselves poor, while 7.3 million families say they are food-poor.

Based on the data released by the agency last Tuesday, January 16, the number of Filipinos saying they’re experiencing poverty closed at 44% which is three points lower than the September 2017 survey which resulted to 47%.

Filipinos who consider themselves ‘food-poor’ reached 33% in 2017 which is two points higher than the 2016 result of 31%.

According to SWS, a Philippine household needs to have at least P15,000 monthly budget to consider itself as not poor.

The Fourth Quarter 2017 Social Weather Survey was conducted from December 8-16, 2017 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide.
