Duterte: ‘I want to make Pacquiao the next president’

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – President Rodrigo Duterte might have just revealed his bet for the next presidential elections.

During his speech on Pacquiao’s birthday bash last December 17 at KCC Convention Center, Duterte revealed that he thinks the boxing-icon-turned-senator has the capability to be the country’s next leader.

Sabi ko sa kanya one time…kami lang dalawa nag-usap, gusto kita gawing presidente,” Duterte said. “Alam mo kaya mo,” he added.

The president also said that it is his pleasure to share memories with him and that he wishes the boxing champion good health so that he can continue to serve the Filipino people.

For his part, Pacquiao said that he wants to serve as an inspiration to his fellow Filipino.

A perfect example of rags-to-riches, Pacquiao said that he did not expect that he will be living the kind of life he has now.

“I want to be an inspiration to everyone, especially the poor. Huwag kayong susuko sa buhay. Huwag  mawalan ng pag-asa at (huwag) ma-discourage because God has plans for you,” Pacquiao said.

It can be recalled that Duterte first said that Pacquiao might have a chance at winning the highest governing position in the country when the boxing champion paid a courtesy call to the president last year.

In that courtesy call, Duterte, while raising Pacquiao’s hands, said, “For president na ‘to ha.

Pacquiao himself has revealed in the past that he has aspirations to run for president.
