The OFW IDs dubbed as the ‘best gift’ of the president to millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) now bear the face of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a Facebook post of Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson, netizens were quick to react on the design of the newly released IDs.
Although many people support the move to place an image of the President on the IDs, there were also others who did not like the idea.
The newly released design is different from what the Department of Labor and Employment had earlier released.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the issuance of the ID cards in only at its initial implementation. This means that the design may still be subject to change.
Sought for comment, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said he doesn’t think Duterte was aware that his photo printed on the IDs.
“Hindi ba pati ang mga pictures niya sa mga [government] offices pinapalitan niya ng mga heroes? I don’t think he knew about this,” he said.
