New bridge set to open in January to ease traffic in Downtown Dubai

A bridge extending from Al Khail Road to the Financial Center Road is set to open early January next year, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.

The new bridge aims to accommodate the huge expansion of Dubai Mall to make the shopping centre capable of receiving more than 100 million visitors each year.

The Dubai Mall expansion works include constructing a department for fashion besides the existing mall, which will add 75,000 square metres to the mall area, in addition to 25,000 square metres of parking spaces.

The new entry point is a one-way bridge with two lanes that extend 1270 meters at a width of 11 to 15 meters.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority said: “The bridge, which starts from the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road-Al Khail Road, encompasses adding two lanes extending 480 meters to the existing road to enable the direct flow of traffic from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Khail Road via the upper deck of the Financial Center Road.”

He added that works include providing an entry point for the parking terminal of the extension of Dubai Mall.

The project, he said, will also ease the flow of traffic along the Financial Center Road and surface intersections.
