Filipino alcohol bootlegger in Dubai sentenced to 6 months in jail

One of four Filipino bootleggers accused of resisting police arrest and assaulting an officer in Dubai has been convicted, reported The National.

Earlier, the convicted Filipino denied the charges against him when he was tried in court last June.

However, the Dubai Criminal Court found the 28-year-old Filipino guilty, while his three companion will walk free.

“We were tipped off about them selling alcohol in Ras Al Khor and the officers, myself included, were dispatched immediately,” said one of the policemen in the incident.

Two officers pretended as buyers and one of the defendants sold them beer that was hidden under a truck, said the report.

“The two officers then identified themselves, which made the suspects run. We chased them, our colleague caught up with them and was assaulted,” the officer said.

The police forces were able to remember the plate number of the car that the bootleggers used. This helped the authorities to track them down.

The car was found two days later.

The convicted Filipino told judges that his hand only accidentally touch the officer’s face.

The three others who only accompanied him in alcohol bootlegging were cleared of resisting arrest charges.

After serving his time in jail, the Filipino will face deportation.
