Dubai joins 3-nation crackdown to dismantle 2 interlinked drug cartels

Expats, including Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates, can hope for a safer and more secured community after cooperations of UAE police with other countries’ police.

To ensure protection of communities from illegal drugs, UAE security cooperated with the Federal Australian Police and Dutch Police to capture members of two international drug trafficking syndicates.

H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, said from a local report that the strong relationship of securities from other countries will help combat local, regional, and international drug-related crimes.

Local report says that the UAE Police’s motivation is the vision of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to create a community where everyone can enjoy safety and security.

With the cooperation of the international securities, 17 members of two international drug smuggling syndicates, including five suspects in Dubai, 10 in Australia and two in the Netherlands, were captured. Over 1.9 tonnes of illegal drugs were confiscated.

It is estimated if this total volume of drugs reached Australian streets, they would have a potential street value of up to $810 million.
