The Philippine government officially marked the launch of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)’s identification for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) called “iDole” on July 12, 2017.
“Today, [we] are launching the iDOLE, the identification card for millions of OFWs,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.
Abella said DOLE partnered with the Social Security System, Development Bank of the Philippines, PhilPost and other government organizations for the long-awaited project.
He added that, “The processing of iDOLE would be shouldered by the employers; hence OFWs will not pay for the cost of the ID.”
“OFWs who carry this would mean that his documents have been legally processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA),” Abella said.
POEA, however, said that the IDs will not be distributed as yet.
“Hindi pa po nagbibigay ng OFW ID sa ngayon. Hindi pa po tapos ang guidelines tungkol ditto. Hintayin po ang mga susunod na announcement para sa tamang proseso ng pagkuha ng ID ng mga OFW,” POEA said in a statement circulated on Facebook.
In a separate advisory, Labor Attache Ophelia Almenario addressed to the Filipino community in the UAE that the embassy “has yet to receive the written instructions as well as the implementing rules and regulations for the issuance of the ID card”.
“We are still processing OECs to date subject to existing rules and regulations,” Almenario’s statement read.
