Paralympics veteran Arthus Bucay delivered the Philippines its first medal on the opening day of the 9th ASEAN Para Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday, September 17.
Bacay, 37, timing in at 1:15.432 in the men’s kilometer C5 tracking event of para cycling, earning him the silver medal.

Bacay previously raced in the 2012 London Paralympics and the 2014 Incheon Asian Para Games where he took home the bronze.
The cyclist got into an accident in a race in 2013, which required an operation that left him with unproportioned legs.
Team Philippines is targeting to surpass the country’s 16 gold medal haul two years ago in Singapore.
“The team is in high spirits, and if our estimation is correct, we have a strong chance of winning 27 golds, perhaps more,” Inquirer quoted chef de mission Ral Rosario as saying.
The biennial multi-sport event welcomed 3,300 athletes from 11 participating countries, including 111 para-athletes from the Philippines during the opening ceremony held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
