Gymnasts bag 6th gold for PH in 2017 SEA Games

It’s raining gold medals today for the Philippines as four of our nation’s athletes ruled their perspective sporting events in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Gymnast Reyland Capallan delivered the Philippines’ first medal today, August 22, in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise with 13.950 points, beating Zul Bahrin Bin Mat Asri of Malaysia and Tikumporn Surintornta of Thailand.

    Kaitlin de Guzman soon followed with another first place win in the gymnastics uneven bars event with 12.875 points. Tracie Ang of Malaysia took the silver medal while Rifda Irfanaluthfi settled for the bronze.

    Gymnastics run in Kaitlin’s blood as her mother, Cintamoni Dela Cruz-De Guzman, also represented the Philippines and won the gold medal for the same event in the 1995 SEA Games in Chiang Mai.

    In the women’s taijiquan in wushu, Philippines dominated once again as Agatha Wong delivered the third gold with a score of 9.66, beating Brunei’s Basma Lachkar in the finals.

    In an all-Filipino finals, Wayne Brennan bested Nathaniel Perez in the men’s individual fencing competition, securing a 1-2 finish for the Philippines.

    As of the time of writing, Philippines is in sixth place with a 6-8-7 gold-silver-bronze medal tally.
