NBA MVP goes to Russell Westbrook

Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook won the National Basketball Association’s Most Valuable Player award on Monday in New York City.

The MVP went to the 28-year-old Thunder for his record-tying triple double performance in the just-concluded NBA season. He averaged 31.6 points plus 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game, to match Oscar Robertson’s double digits for a full season in 1962.

Westbrook, who bested James Harden of Houston and Kawhi Leonard of San Antonio in the MVP race, thanked his wife, parents, teammates and fans for what he described as an “amazing season.”

“I couldn’t do none of this without you guys. I can’t say thank you enough,” GMA News quoted him as saying.
